2 de febrero: fiesta de la Presentación del Señor, cuarenta días después de su nacimiento. Es conocida como la fiesta de la Candelaria y es muy popular en México y otros países. Esta fiesta cierra el calendario popular navideño, que comenzó el 16 de diciembre.

3 de febrero: la Iglesia conmemora al obispo San Blas, quien fue martirizado en el año 316 en Sebaste, Armenia, (hoy Turquía). Se le considera uno de los 14 santos intercesores y se le invoca para curar el dolor de garganta.

5 de febrero: La Iglesia celebra el martirio de Felipe de Jesús de las Casas (San Felipe de Jesús). Nacido en la ciudad de México, fue religioso franciscano. Fue martirizado el 5 de febrero de 1572, en Nagasaki, Japón. Fue canonizado en 1862 por el Papa Pío IX. Es el protomártir de México. Sus restos se veneran en la Catedral Metropolitana de México. Es el segundo patrono de la nación mexicana, después de la Virgen de Guadalupe.

It is the second patron of the Mexican nation, after the Virgin of Guadalupe to continue building the community as a common project, that is, with the constructive participation of each and every one of us.

Oración por la Unión de los Cristianos/Christian Unity Sunday

Semana de Oración por la Unión de los Cristianos. Cada año todos los cristianos dedicamos una semana, del 18 al 25 de enero, a hacer oración por la restauración de la unidad de todos los que creemos en Cristo. Como bien sabemos, los cristianos estamos dividos en tres ramas: católicos, ortodoxos (desde el siglo XI) y protestantes (desde el siglo XVI). Esto contradice la voluntad de Cristo de que seamos “uno”; y es un escándalo para el mundo. Mañana, fiesta de la Conversión del Apóstol Pablo, concluye la semana de oración. Invito a que hagamos oraciones especiales por esta necesidad tan grande que tiene la Iglesia.

As we know, Christians are divided into three branches: Catholic, Orthodox (from the eleventh century) and Protestants (from the sixteenth century). This contradicts the will of Christ that we are "one" and is a scandal to the world. Tomorrow, the Feast of the Conversion of the Apostle Paul concludes the week of prayer. Primer aniversario de la Dedicación de nuestra iglesia. ¡Felicidades! Los invito a dar gracias a Dios porque nos concedió el gran regalo de poder construirla. Felicito al Padre Faucher y al staff de la parroquia (John Krueger particularmente) por su dedicación y profesionalismo; y a toda la comunidad parroquial por su decidido apoyo y participación. Pienso que la construcción de nuestra iglesia fue toda una lección no solamente de planeación y organización, sino también de trabajo de conjunto, de trabajo en equipo, en armonía. Fue un proyecto común realizado por todos. Cada quien aportó su “granito de arena”. Invito a todos los miembros de la parroquia a continuar construyendo la comunidad, como un proyecto común; es decir, con la participación constructiva de todos y cada uno de nosotros.

I invite you to give thanks to God who gave us the great gift of being able to build it.Congratulations to Father Faucher and the staff of the parish (John Krueger particularly) for their dedication and professionalism, and to the entire parish community for their strong support and participation. I think building our church was a lesson not only in planning and organization, but also in working together, in teamwork, harmony. It was a joint project undertaken by all. Each person contributed their "two cents". Bautismo de Jesús de Nazareth /Baptism of Jesus

Bautismo de Jesús de Nazareth en el río Jordán. Jesús no necesitaba bautizarse; sin embargo, quiso hacerlo como un acto de solidaridad con la raza humana. Al pedir el bautismo y confundirse con la gente, como un pecador más, está asumiendo como propios los pecados de toda la humanidad: "se hizo pecado por nosotros". El agua que escurrió por su cuerpo significó el lavado del pecado del mundo, que culminaría con la Sangre que escurrió desde la Cruz, con la cual quedó completada la redención del género humano. El amor de Jesús al mundo se manifiesta con hecho concretos, no con palabras bonitas. Nuestro amor a Jesús debe manifestarse en la misma forma: con hechos, no con palabras. Así lo dice el refrán mexicano: "obras son amores y no buenas razones".

++++++Baptism of Jesus of Nazareth in the Jordan River. Jesus did not need to be baptized, but did so as an act of solidarity with the human race. By requesting baptism and mingling with people as a sinner, he was assuming as his own the sins of all humanity and 'became sin for us'. The water running down his body was a washing of the sins of the world. Later this washing was culminated with the blood that trickled from the Cross, which completed the redemption of mankind. The love of Jesus to the world was made manifest in concrete action, not with words. Our love for Jesus should be manifested in the same way: with deeds, not words. So says the Mexican proverb: "Actions speak louder than words'.
