México: cultura y religión
Mansaje semanal del 15 de noviembre, 2009
Durante 4 viernes consecutivos tuve la oportunidad de conversar con un grupo de personas sobre la historia y cultura de México y los mexicanos. Quiero agradecer y felicitar a la parroquia por brindar este espacio para el diálogo intercultural. Quiero extender una invitación a toda la comunidad para, de alguna manera, continuar este diálogo que nos ayuda a conocernos mejor para entendernos mejor. Algunos de los temas que tratamos fueron: 1) ¿por qué los obispos católicos de los Estados Unidos afirman que la presencia de los hispanos es una bendición para la Iglesia y para el país? 2)¿Por qué la presencia de los hispanos ayuda a la Iglesia de Estados Unidos a ser más católica? 3) ¿Por qué es tan importante el tema de la cultura? 4) ¿Por qué el catolicismo mexicano/hispano es diferente del catolicismo de los anglo-europeos? 5) ¿Qué se entiende por asimilación y qué por integración? I had the opportunity to converse with a group of people, for four consecutive Fridays, about the history and culture of Mexico and its people. I would like to thank and congratulate the parish for offering this opportunity to have an intercultural dialogue. Also, I would like to invite the whole parish community to, in some way, continue this dialogue so that we may get to know each other better which will lead to understanding each other better. Some of the topics we discussed were: 1) Why do the Catholic Bishops of the United States affirm that the presence of the Hispanic people is a blessing from God to the Church and to the country? 2) Why does the presence of the Hispanic people help the Church in the United States to be more Catholic? 3) Why culture is so important? 4) Why is Mexican/Hispanic Catholicism different than Anglo-European Catholicism? 5) What is understood about assimilation and what about integration? If you are interested in discussing these topics further, please call me or e-mail me at jcamacho@stmarysboise.org

Mayordomía
Mensaje semanal del domingo 8 de noviembre, 2009
Mayordomía es una palabra no muy conocida, pero que significa mucho para nuestra relación con Dios y con los demás. Mayordomía significa que todo lo que tenemos lo hemos recibido de Dios para el servicio de los demás; por lo tanto tiene que ver con responsabilidad y con ofrenda. ¿Qué tenemos que no hayamos recibido? Y lo que hemos recibido es para el bien común (ver 1 Cor 12,4-7). En otras palabras, tenemos que dar cuenta a Dios de lo que hemos recibido: cualidades, habilidades, dones especiales, recursos económicos, etc. Lo mejor que podemos hacer es usar lo que tenemos para servir a los demás. Aprendemos esto en nuestra propia familia, porque nos sentimos parte de ella, porque sabemos que pertenecemos a ella. Pues bien, la parroquia es la familia de familias y presenta la magnífica oportunidad de ser buenos/as mayordomos/as. Propongo a continuación algunas preguntas que nos pueden ayudar a respondernos si lo somos: 1) ¿Qué dones o talentos tengo yo para ofrecer a la comunidad parroquial? 2) ¿Siento la parroquía como mi familia, conozco las actividades que tiene, me comprometo a ayudar en alguna? 3) ¿Cómo contribuyo yo para ayudar a la parroquia en sus necesidades?

+++++++Stewardship is not a well known word, but it is significant in our relationship with God and others. Stewarship signifies that all that we have comes from God to serve others; because of this, it has to do with responsibility and offering. What do we have that has not been received by God? And that which we have received is for the good of all (see 1 Cor 12, 4-7). In other words, we have to be accountable to God for all that we have reeceived: Qualities, abilities, special gifts, economic resources, etc. The best that we can do is use what we have to serve others. We learn this in our own family, because we feel part of them, because we know that we belong to them. So also the parish is a family of families and there is great opportunity to be good stewards. I propose that we ask ourselves these questions to find out if we are good stewards: 1) What gifts or talents do I have to offer the parish community? 2) Do I feel that the parish is part of my family? Do I know the activities of the parish? Do I commit myself to help with any of them? 3) How do I contribute to the needs of the parish? Have you chosen a ministry in which you can help? We have a parish ministry guide that offers many opportunties. If you are thinking of helping in any way, please contact the parish office. Currently we are seeking help with the hospitality committee. Also, if you are available to help the parish office answer phones during the day, please let us know.
