San Pedro y San Pablo/St. Peter and St. Paul

Esta semana ( día 29) celebra la Iglesia la festividad de San Pedro y San Pablo. Dos santos y dos personalidades muy distintas. Pedro fue un hombre sencillo, franco, espontáneo; pescador de profesión. Pablo, en cambio, fue un hombre educado y con grandes cualidades de organizador. Los dos son considerados como los pilares fundamentales de la Iglesia. Pedro fue escogido por Jesús como cabeza de los doce, cabeza de la Iglesia; fue el primer Papa. Pablo fue escogido un poco más tarde por Jesús para que se encargara de predicar el Evangelio a los no judíos, llamados en aquel entonces “gentiles”. Pedro le dio unidad a la Iglesia; Pablo le dio organización. Esto nos da una idea de cómo Dios sabe cómo y cuándo escoge la persona adecuada para sus planes de salvación. No importa el temperamento ni la personalidad. Lo que verdaderamente importa es que le digan sí y que se conviertan en instrumentos de la voluntad del Señor

This week (the 29th) the Church celebrates the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. Two very different saints with two very different personalities. Peter was a very simple, frank, spontaneous fisherman. Paul on the other hand, was a very educated man with great organization skills. The two are considered fundamental pillars of the Church. Peter was chosen by Jesus as the head of the 12, head of the Church; he was the first Pope. Paul was chosen a little later by Jesus to be in charge of preaching the Gospel to the Jews or in those times they were referred to as the “gentiles”. Peter gave unity to the Church; Paul gave organization. This gives us an idea of how God knows how and when to choose the right person for his plans of salvation. It does not matter the temperament or the personality. What is most important is that they say “yes” and that they become instruments of the Lord’s will.
