Nuestro compromiso bautismal /Our Baptismal commitment

Nuestro compromiso bautismal. El compromiso más serio en esta tierra es el que hacemos con Dios el día de nuestro bautismo. De ahí se derivan todos los demás compromisos. Es, por lo tanto, de suma importancia que conozcamos con claridad cuál es y en qué consiste este compromiso. Debemos preguntarnos: ¿A qué nos hemos comprometido al aceptar ser bautizados? Por lo pronto les diré que es un compromiso de por vida. Al final de la Cuaresma, precisamente en la noche de la Vigilia Pascual y en el Domingo de Resurrección todos los católicos del mundo renovaremos nuestro compromiso bautismal. Los invito a que aprovechemos la Cuaresma para prepararnos a ello de la mejor manera posible.

+++++Our Baptismal commitment. The baptismal commitment we make with God is the most serious one we make here on earth. Other commitments are derived from this baptismal commitment. It is therefore, of total importance that we know with clarity what it means and what it consists of. We must ask: What is the commitment of the acceptance of this sacrament? I should tell you that this is a life long commitment. At the end of Lent, precisely at the Easter Vigil Mass and on Easter Sunday all of us Catholics in the world will be asked to renew our baptismal commitment. I invite you to take advantage of this Lenten Season to prepare for this in the best manner possible.

La Cuaresma/Lent

La Cuaresma es un tiempo de 40 días para prepararnos a celebrar la fiesta más importante de nuestra fe católica. La Pascua de Resurrección es la fiesta del triunfo definitivo de Jesucristo sobre el mal, el pecado, el demonio y la muerte. La mejor manera de celebrar el triunfo de Cristo es con nuestro propio triunfo sobre esos enemigos en nuestra vida personal, familiar y comunitaria. Por eso la Iglesia nos invita a la penitencia (ayuno, abstinencia) y a la oración para vencer a esos enemigos que quieren impedir nuestra salvación. Tomemos en serio la Cuaresma. Una buena manera de aprovechar la Cuaresma es llegar a la Pascua reconciliados con Dios, en paz con El y con los demás. Deseo a todos una Santa Cuaresma.

+++++Lent is a time of 40 days to prepare to celebrate the most important feast of our Catholic faith. Easter is the celebration of Christ's ultimate triumph over evil, sin, the devil and death. The best way to celebrate the victory of Christ is in our own triumph over these enemies in our personal lives, in our family and in our community. That is why the Church invites us to prepare with penance (fasting, abstinence) and prayer to defeat those enemies who want to stand in the way of our salvation. Take Lent seriously. A good way to take advantage of Lent is to arrive at Easter reconciled with God, and at peace with oneself and with others. I wish you all a Holy Lent.

Amor y Amistad/Love and Friendship/Comienzo de la Cuaresma/Beginning of Lent

Mensaje semanal, febrero 14, 2010

¡Feliz Día del Amor y la Amistad! No hay aprendizaje más importante y más necesario en esta vida que el aprender a amar. Y lo único que va a contar a la hora de rendir cuentas a Dios es si amamos o no amamos durante nuestro peregrinaje por la tierra. Mis sinceras felicitaciones a quienes han aprendido a amar y lo practican todos los días y con todas las personas, porque Dios está contento con ustedes.

Este miércoles comienza el tiempo de Cuaresma. El tema de reflexión que el Papa Benedicto XVI ha escogido para este año es: “la justicia de Dios se ha manifestado por la fe en Jesucristo”, tomado de la carta de san Pablo a los Romanos 3, 21-22. Los invito a que aprovechemos este tiempo de penitencia y oración para mejorar y avanzar en nuestra vida cristiana, sobre todo en el amor a Dios y al prójimo.

Happy Valentine's Day! There is no lesson more important in this life than learning to love. And the only thing that will count when we stand before God at the end of our life is if we loved or did not love during our pilgrimage on earth. My sincere congratulations to those who have learned to love and practice it every day and with all people, because God is pleased with you.
This Wednesday begins the Lenten season. The theme of reflection that Pope Benedict XVI has chosen for this year is "the righteousness of God has been manifested through faith in Jesus Christ", taken from the letter of Paul to the Romans 3, 21-22. I invite you to take advantage of this time of penance and prayer to renew and to move forward in our Christian life, especially in the love of God and our neighbor.
